Ah , the good old days!
I am working out again, eating well (or better, at least), the we´re winning the war, and Democrats are making asses of themselves.
My back is a bit gammy still, but showing improvement. If anyone knows some good Psoas exercises I can do while at work, please comment.
Corrie is going to try the zone diet. Unfortunately , she put her numbers through the block calculator algorityhm and came back with 7. That a chicken breast, 7 macadamia nuts, An Orange, a Few cups of spinach, and a glass of milk.. A day. My number ends up being 16, but I always bump it up a bit to about 23. Not that I am going to try to do the zone in Santiago. It´s hard enough trying to find appetizing food, much less appetizing and healthy. It´s getting better though.
So on the topic of the Zone, Corrie and I got into a scrap over whole grains. Rather than rewrite it, I´ll just post it in it´s original form (one or two changes were made to make me look smarter. Hey, get your own blog!):
[10-10-2007 12:37:43] atlCorrie says: oh, so the thing that i have always heard is that whole grain is complex carbs and refined is simple. complex takes a long time to go thru system, so it does slowly releases sugar into system, while simple releases it immediately
[10-10-2007 12:39:38] Sean says: yep, I agree wtht that statement... but it´s like I said, that statement only shows how brown is better than white.. not why brown is good for you. I understand that they have nutrients.. but EVERYTHING has something in it that is good for you.

[10-10-2007 13:04:39] atlCorrie says: FROM: http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20041229/whole-grains-help-your-heart Whole Grains More Than Just Fiber
Why are whole grains the miracle ingredient? Whole grains have three parts: bran, germ, and the starchy endosperm. Refined grains are stripped of bran and germ. This takes away nearly all the fiber and nutrients and leaves behind nearly all the calories. All three parts of whole grains provide fiber that keeps arteries healthy. Scientists are finding it is not just the bran and fiber, but all the nutrients in whole grain that provide the most benefit, researchers say.
[10-10-2007 13:05:32] atlCorrie says: im just trying to understand why the zone would discourage grains?
[10-10-2007 14:21:24] Sean says: this lookes promosing: http://www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com/Articles_DAILYBREAD.htm
[10-10-2007 14:24:29] Sean says: yeah, that last link pretty much sums up the situation
[10-10-2007 15:01:48] Sean says: I guess I am still confused why you are concerned about whole grains... I mean, we have been told to eat them over and over, but I always interpeted that as "eat whole grains before you eat processed grains", not as a stirring endorsement of whole grains. Sure they have nutrients, but everything has nutrients in it. I feel that a slice of whole grain bread and a cup of brown rice are far inferior to a chicken breast, a bunch of spinach, or an apple. I base that on the Carb to nutrient ratio and a basic gut feeling, but there seems to be evidence that our bodies arn´t designed to process grains.
[10-10-2007 15:10:41] Sean says: I am skeptical of pro-whole-grain studies for a few reasons. 1) They may be done in comparrison to processed-grain diets, not No-grain Diets. 2) I think many Nutritionists are covering their asses after being wrong for many years. For 20 years those dumb-asses were so certain that high-carb diets were the way to go. I consider it one of the greatest crimes ever. Those recomendations may have done more harm than cigarettes 3) I can show you an article that purports the benifits of almost EVERYTHING, booze, wine, chocolate, white-bread, carrots, corn. When you consider the size of the Grain lobby (the whole center of this country) there is likely an institutional bias towards grains.
[10-10-2007 15:12:53] Sean says: Of course you know me, I´ll eat anything that tastes good. I just like to have a clear idea of what the Ideal is. I think the ideal is to have little or no grains. Unless it´s in the form of Bourbon or Vodka.
[10-10-2007 16:45:14] atlCorrie says: i think and will always think that whole grains are good for you, from everything I have read, and was taught. you say that everything has some nutritious elements in them, well from what i showed you earlier, there are certain nutrients in whole grain that are in abundance, folic acid, and potassium to name a couple. A healthy amount of fiber is found in it also. Since you need these, then grains are good, and should not be avoided. I am shocked that the zone discouraged liver also, even though it has perhaps the highest concentration of nutrients available. iron, vit A, niacin,B12,magnesium, and potassium.
[10-10-2007 16:46:48] atlCorrie says: Why should you avoid grains? fruit has a lot of carbs also, but why eat them?
[10-10-2007 17:01:09] atlCorrie says: i understand your side of this, i just dont see how a lot of carbs can lead to discouragement?? i see that there are a lot more carbs in grains, that is certain. but there are alot more other things that we need also.
[10-10-2007 17:01:53] atlCorrie says: so, i understand that if you can get the same nutrients from something other than grains that has less carbs then you should opt for that instead of the grain.
[10-10-2007 17:03:15] atlCorrie says: what i am saying is that grains are not bad, and in moderation, can be beneficial.
[10-10-2007 17:07:37] atlCorrie says: our kashi cereal has less calories, and less carbs than an orange. (this is not consistent with brown rice, in fact opposite)
[10-10-2007 17:23:51] atlCorrie says: no comment on the book i wrote before all that?
[10-10-2007 17:42:13] Sean says: about your book.... I think we just disagree. I think that if you are on a healthy diet with a wide variety of vegetables, abstainng from a slice of whole grain bread, or a cup of brown rice would have would have a better effect on you than eating it. But we have beat this dead horse , then we revived him , and then we beat him to death.

[10-10-2007 17:44:43] Sean says: But I do like Kashi a lot. my Diet would have tobe pretty strict before I would give it up.[10-10-2007 19:23:51] atlCorrie says:so you say we disagree. I say that eating grains should not be discouraged. And I say that in moderation and sticking to a diet, grains can be good, and not have a bitter effect on you. for me to be wrong then eating Kashi, a cereal made of grains and other ingredients, will have a bitter effect on you, and should be discouraged. AND that, instead of Kashi, eating fruit would be a better choice. even though fruit has less than half the fiber as kashi, no protein, no iron, less potassium, and just about the same amount of carbs. So since fruit does not have the nutrients as Kashi cereal, it is not a better choice. since it is not a better choice, then it should not be eaten instead of kashi. and since fruit is should not be eaten instead of Kashi and fruit is encouraged, then kashi should be encouraged. and since kashi should be encouraged, then i cannot be wrong.
There, she ran rings around me logically.
