I had to take care of business, a lot of business giving there
Chile on Sunday, Dave's wedding on Saturday, rehersal dinner on Friday.
Well, we just passed the halfway mark of Six Feet Under. Disk 3 Season 3. We should finish the season before Santiago, but we may miss Dave's wedding.
Ed and Kory met us at the river. We took the long float, which was nice, except that the Busch Lite got warm and I got cold halfway through. And the river was so low, we kept draggin our asses on the rocks.
Taylor v. Pavlik on HBO saturday night. I'll be at the wedding but maybe I can get J-Lau to TIVO it for me, and then I can slingbox from Chile. It's a crazy world, I'll give another example: Jermaine Taylor hasn't lost a fight, and his last five fights have been against Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Cory Spinks, and Hassim Ouma. And yet the dude gets zero respect. In fact, he is considered an underdog against Pavlik, who has only beat the little known Edison Miranda. The reason behind this 'injustice' is that Pavlik wiped the floor with the hard hitting Miranda, while Taylor was negative throughout his fights, drawing against Winky, and 'winning' contraversially against the other guys. But he's at least as good as them, no? The only active guy with a reign as long as B-Hop's is Calzaghe, who fights the powerfull Kessler on Nov 3rd.
Also , before the end of the year Hatton Mayweather, and Cotto v. Mosley. Both those fights, especially the latter, will be great, even for casual boxing fans. Incidently, Mayweather starts Dancing with the Stars this week. If he were to make it to the finals, he would only have two weeks between the end of the show and his fight against Hatton. I love Ricky, but he needs all the help he can get against the bigger, longer, and faster, Mayweather. Mayweather may even hit harder at that weight.. Scary, considering Ricky got handled by a lesser opponent at his only other campaign at 147. So Vote for Floyd.
Oh nevermind, don't vote for that arrogant bastard, Ricky will either win or he won't.
Hmmm, Chile just IM'd me asking me to bring my Boots. Sta tuned for more Reports from the Pitch.

a little late night cache, a tender moving soul shake
Last weekend Corrie and I watched the Bronco’s dominate the Bills only to have to miraculously pull the win out of their ass, at Barleys on Peachtree. This is a comfortable, clean, and classy pool hall right on the corner of Peachtree and Ralph Mcgill. The staff is friendly and the food is above average.
This weekend we watched the Broncos dominate the Raiders only to have to miraculously pull the win out of their ass, at Gibney’s on Peachtree center. Epicures will recall that Gibney’s is Charley and Barneys in Irish Pub Drag The staff maintains the C&B’s blue collar owner-operator Cheers vibe, but we all know they traded the world’s best pizza for decent Corned Beef and Cabbage (Hello Porrige, goodbye birthright). They have a lot of Television, including private tableside flat screens, and they have a shuffleboard table, but I can’t get settled, so in the Fourth, Corrie and I went down the road to Velocity, in the Marriott.
Velocity, in the Marriott, may be the best incarnation of ‘the modern sports bar’ or ‘Sports Lounge’ I have ever been to. The entire South wall is a virtual screen, serviced by arrays of leather recliners. The main room has a well stocked and reasonably priced bar. Service was engaging and humorous. There was an Island bar servicing the hotel lobby wouldn’t be out of place in a swanky Vegas boutique hotel. The new W is going to have some competition. Imagine a swanky downtown lounge scene?
Saturday evening we traversed the Virginia Higland intersection as part of Kelly's 30th birthday pub crawl. Noche, Fontaines, Highland tap, Moes and Joes, Highland tap, TacoMac, asleep by 10:30.

you just wiggled a finger
Football fans read this. (Command, not and obeservation)
Dave's bachelor party was a big success. Dave is king of the Castle. There is no definitive Governor of San Juan. We know and is Quasimoto.
Inner-tubing and Cabin this weekend. You're all invited.
Corrie and I made Mousakka last night. Came out great. Dude's house got a little smokey, and we had to forfeit some aborgines, but the end product was perfect. Later that night, they made the same dish on Six Feet Under. We're over half way throught the second season. Obviously I am enjoying it, but I wonder if it doesn't really hit it's stride untill the next few seasons.
gotta run.

Wearing only flowers comes in 27 to 1
Check out this animated version of the College football Blogs Poll.
I don't know what kind of readership you need to become a voter, but I am certain Dave ain't there yet, so get on over to his site and see what he has to say. But don't expect anything this weekend, cause it's his bachelor party weekend in Orlando.
See you soon.

Ticket to Ride

Moments before someone took my hat.

At Game, with hat. I couldn't find a red shirt that I liked.

Freedom Park Labor Day Bike Race. We won.

Who made off with me hat?
This football post, by the best pro football website around, provides some good advice for life too.
Here are some random observations from this weekend.
Sandford Stadium was too subdued. Harry Bisset’s serves a full menu on Sunday mornings. The food was good, but the plating was a bit slipshod. Plus, no alcohol till 12:30, but that's not their fault. Gyro Wrap in Athens is still real good. Barbaritos, a newish burrito stand on Clayton makes a rock solid Willies style burrito. I don't know why it was so good, nothing in the mes-en-place merited comment, but it was. Maybe because it was served with a solid victory over OSU.
Young drunk Georgia fans could exhibit a bit more class and character, even for the young and drunk. Bad both mid-game, and in victory, I fear what they are like in defeat. At one point two of them were walking behind some elder Cowboys, baiting them with tales of SEC superiority and Oklahoma unworthiness. I wish I had sprung to OSU's defense-- I came up with some witty rejoinders after the fact.
I also wish I would have put an arm lock on one of the guys who grabbed my hat, and made him beg for his friend to return it. Oh wait, I did that. Corrie swooned. I’m usually not so quick to contest physically, but his arm was right there, and there is nothing more foolish than a man chasing his hat.
The roadhouse hasn't changed a bit. I don't like it much right after a late game victory, but the class of the bartenders, and purity of the establishment shone, even through the drunken so-co frat haze. Cutter's, Pat's new bar, is in the Mean Mike's mold. Nothing groundbreaking there, though he's imbued his staff with a healthy respect for the classics. Reads: Good Bloody Mary's. The first one I have ever drank though, actually.
As far as the game goes, I don't have too much to add. The last game I saw in person was Cal over Stanford, and I would pick OSU over Cal based on pure unmolested impression. I couldn't twist that impression into a beautiful bit of UGA homerism, but I won't bother. Cal has earned itself respite from ridicule. Tennessee has taken its place, but right now I am too disappointed in the Volunteers to taunt them.
Sean Bailey is a stud. I know nothing about what it takes to get national media attention, so I can't with any confidence say that he and KnowShon (Sic) will have a ton of it by the end of the year, but if I weren’t make of straw I would predict that the Stafford, Bailey, Moreno trio will make some waves. (Yeah, I just mixed up an oz metaphor. I haven't written anything in a while..)
Stardust, the movie based on Neil Gaimon’s book of the same name is terrific. It’s written and shot with forethought and smarts. I have trouble rating the experience, as a whole, of movies based on books I have read, especially when the movie tracks closely to the book. Perfume, for instance, I have no idea if anyone would like. I only know that it was a faithful and artful adaptation. But I will say that Stardust is fun, smart, funny, and smarty.
(ED: Ahh, those familiar and clever quick cuts during the entrail readings, adn elsewhere, were from Layer Cake, which was directed by the same bloke)
