the sun also sets
The greatest of all Buckleys has passed away. (Sorry Jeff and Tim) The corner will have the latest. I'll wait for all them to chime in before I attempt to find words.

we'll all float on
Drudge had a headline a day or two ago about how Bush has done more for Africa than any other U.S. President. I promise you this: Were it not for his wife's campaign, Bill would be on T.V. right now telling us how he, actually, did more. Meanwhile, Dolorous Ed , over at his mercurial blog DebtIsSlavery, has come to realize that the Clintons are bashed excessively, and that Obama actually means what he says: While Hillary talked the left talk on fighting Islamo-fascism, I don't
think she ever meant it. Obama means it. He will pull out of Iraq on
day one and the hell with what happens. Who'd you rather have in a dark
alley staring down the Iranian mullahs? Hillary or Mr. Sweet Sunshine?
Yeah exactly.
I actually believe Hillary, in her attempt to solidify her foreign policy credentials, came to realize what the responsible course in Iraq had to be. Obama's campaign is powered by Hope, Change, and all things less substantial than reality. It's easy to float when you are a lightweight. But lets see what happened when he gets in office and has a bunch of Heavies tell him the way it is. I think that by then, two things will have happened: 1) A drawback of forces will already be in the cards, but like the ill-time economic swings surrounding the first Bush, the Dems will wrongly try to take credit for it. 2) "New information" will provide Obama with a plausible reason for leaving plenty of troops on the ground. This new information , in truth, was that the Joint Chiefs put him in his place, but Obama will trumpet some other news. He'll rename the soldiers and their mission, and the coalition will magically become international again, but nothing will really change. Or something like that.

Hit me with your best shot
The irresistible force was stopped by the immovable object. There are two constants in politics: The Clinton's will not lose and Democrats will pander to the black population. The Collided in this years primary, and the results were spectacular.
Know that the real reason Hillary was crying was that she couldn't pull a Tonya Harding on Obama. It wasn't the pressure of the campaign, she's handled worse, it was the stress of having to fight with one lead pipe tied behind her back.
We thought we would see a similar collision of forces when Bill got caught extending his executive privilege into the intern pool but the National Organization of Women spontaneously exploded when they found out, leaving Bill to to run roughshod over the common understanding of Womens' rights.
Meanwhile, I can't tell if certain relatives of mine really believe Obama is a Jihadist, of they are just saying that to be onhrey. One of the many tricks that seemed Rovian throughout his term, but in fact were more common on the left, was that of accusing one party of disseminating a lie, just so you could get the lie out yourself. The best example of this was the constant talking point that "Middle Americans think Saddam and Iraq were behind 9/11". Democrats kept saying that, accusing republicans of that lie, but essentially were promoting the belief themselves (just so the accusation would stick). I can imagine Hillary's posse routinely expressing outrage like so "It's disgusting to me that Barack Hussein Obama would be smeared as a muslim jihadist. Let me repeat that......"
I have no proof. I do think that maybe 5 percent of the population thought Saddam was behind 9/11, but by the end of the Democrats' protestations, the percentage rose to whatever heights it reached. It's a neat trick.
Anyhow, it doesn't take a complete cynic or anarchist to see the logic for preferring Hillary over McCain. He's a poor conservative. She would unite the republicans. We need something dramatic to happen. If we do in fact need a Democrat in the oval office in order to galvanize the republics, I think Hillary would be the perfect one for the job. Obama would work, but he would have a big honeymoon, and too much popular support. So I was starting to get behind Hillary's campaign when I realized what perfect hell it would be for me to have to endure Bill back in the White House. We had to bust out the formula 410 the first time he left.
I'll put the country before many things, but asking me to further his career is asking me to do to much.

same as it ever was
I wanted the giants to win for a couple of reasons. One, I don't like my records in the history books, not the newspaper. Two, I like Tom Coughlin. Rocks in the river and all that. I can stand all the hissyfits everybody used to throw because he was too tough on his players. This, from Lombardi and Bryant fetishists.
In other news, the word of the week is 'fetish'. Mainstream fitness authorities have a running and endurance fetish. For instance. I've been thinking a lot about nutrition lately and I think 'fetish' best describes mainstream positions. I think 'the balanced diet' as it is commonly perceived, is a popular fetish.
Before you roll your eyes, concede the point that I am not a wanton contrarian <sp?>. I am vocal and cheerful when I am in the minority, which may make those times seem more numerous than they are, but as a matter of course I am a champion of convention. I like it both ways.

why can't I be you
I worked out at Crossfit Marina this morning, in Huntington Beach. I thought my time would stick at #1, but I didn't noticed the marines in the second group. So yeah, I got smoked, again, but it feels good to once again be competing. (or is it "to be once again competing" or "to compete again"... blech.. they all suck) I introduced myself to the Marines after the workout telling them that I was from ATLANTA. They said they recognized me from a crossfit video. Flattered, I asked which one, and they said the one where I did Diane with Hand Walks instead of Handstand Pushups.I quickly realized three things: First, that I had certainly never been filmed walking on my hands, because, uh, I can't. Two, I had never seen such a video, but it sounds suspiciously like something Adrian in San Francisco would do. And three, I had not mentioned San Francisco at all, so they had obviously confused me with Adrian, on looks alone. WEIRD. Meanwhile, Adrian won't return my calls, so I have begun spreading rumors about him being a strong man and Lion-tamer in the circus. Oh, he may not mind that misrepresentation, but I am just getting started. UPDATE: New theory: They may have been at the Big Box Certification ("The who are two guys from San Fran in PT cruiser cert") which might explain the association.
