Subject: scorpion sting

 
I found this drink on the internet and made it last night.  Thought you might enjoy it.
 

Scorpion Sting
1/3 oz Whiskey
1/3 oz Pernod
1 oz Maraschino Liqueur
Stir all ingredients with cracked ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

 

I ended up throwing in a couple dashes of ango, I used herbsaint even though I have pernod, and I went a little heavier on the whiskey (old overholt).  Turned out nice.

I've played with variants of this.. or rather, I think I have tried the drinks that this is a variant of:  The Diamondback and the Brooklyn. and the fancy free..  off the top of my head...   let me go check.


Diamondback

  • 1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey (Rittenhouse bonded strongly recommended)
  • 3/4 ounce applejack (Laird’s bonded apple brandy strongly recommended)
  • 3/4 ounce Chartreuse (yellow works, but green works better)*

Nope, I was wrong about the diamond back, its way different.


THE BROOKLYN

1 1/2 oz rye or bourbon (4.5 cl, 3/8 gills)
1/2 oz dry vermouth (1.5 cl, 1/8 gills)
1/4 oz Amer Picon (6 dashes, 1/16 gills)
1/4 oz maraschino liqueur (6 dashes, 1/16 gills)

yeah.. I was closer on this one

the Fancy Free

  • 2 ounces Bourbon whisky (I prefer Maker's Mark)
  • 1/2 ounce Maraschino liqueur (I use Luxardo)
  • 1 - 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 - 2 dashes orange bitters

  • Ok I was pretty close here... too.
